Emerging Professionals Construction Tour Series: Oyster River Middle School Tour #3

Three tours in August, October, and January, will be highlighting different construction phases of the new, 700 student 146,900 SF Oyster River Middle School in Durham NH. The design includes a Central Learning Common area, 4 story clerestory monitor, support for Library, Arts, STEM and Fitness programs as well as a 900 seat Recital Hall. The building is designed for Net-Zero use, and is currently trending to be Net-Positive, featuring geothermal heating/cooling systems and PV arrays to supply electricity.

ARCHITECT: Lavallee Brensinger Architects

CONSTRUCTION MANAGER: Bauen Corporation 

SPEAKERS: Architects Stephen Laput, AIA and Anne Ketterer of Lavallee Brensinger Architects will discuss the design process and lead tours of the project.

Safety requirements: Note this project is currently under construction, offering a unique perspective into building systems and assembly details. As such, proper footwear, safety glasses and hardhats will be required.  Attendees are expected to supply their own safety equipment.

COVID requirements: State recommendations for best practices in a group setting, current at the time of the tours, will be adhered to. Facemasks and hand sanitizer will be provided.

Note that while these tours are open to the general design community, it’s a unique opportunity for young architects and emerging professionals to see first hand the construction and detailing of a high performance, sustainable education project, one of the first of it’s kind in the country.

This tour series is free for Emerging Professionals. 

Emerging Professionals are individuals who are still students, have up to five years post-graduate experience in the architectural profession and are pursuing licensure, or have been licensed as an architect for five years or less.

Professionals fee:  $60 for all three tours

These fees will be used specifically to support future programs run by the AIANH Emerging Professionals.
